A. Are The Wages Of Sin Death?

Romans 6:

    23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:

    12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

James 1:

    15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Romans 5:

    21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

NOTE:

    Because all men have sinned; all men will die at least once, then they will be judged. (see Hebrews 9:27) If they have accepted Christ and His free gift (His dying in their place) they will receive eternal life. If they have not accepted Christ’s dying in their place then they will die the “second death” to pay for their own sins. (see II. B.)

TEXT OF INTEREST

Proverbs 12:

    28 In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

NOTE:

    Notice that walking in the way of righteousness is life, which is opposite the results of living in sin, which is death.

B. Are The Wages Of Sin The First Death Or Is There A Second Death?

Revelation 21:

    8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Revelation 2:

    11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Revelation 20:

    6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

    14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

NOTE:

    Christ took our place so we could avoid the second death. Even the Righteous can die the first death.

    The final punishment of the wicked in hell fire is the second death. The second death is the wages of sin.
