- VI. Man At Resurrection
- A. Did Those Resurrected In Bible Times Have A Story To Relate?
- Matthew 9:
- 24 He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.
- 25 But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.
- 26 And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.
- Luke 7:
- 12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
- 13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
- 14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
- 15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
- John 11:
- 43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
- 44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
- 45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
- Mark 5:
- 39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
- 40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
- 41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
- 42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
- 43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
- Matthew 27:
- 52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
- 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
- B. Is A Resurrection Necessary?
- 1 Corinthians 15:
- 13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
- 14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
- 16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
- 17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
- 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
- John 14:
- 19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
- TEXT OF INTEREST
- John 14:
- 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
- NOTE:
- If the disciples were going to heaven when they died would Christ need to come back so they could be with Him?
- C. Does The Bible Speak Of Two Separate Resurrections?
- Revelation 20:
- 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
- 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
- 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
- NOTE:
- If there is a first then there must be at least a second or more resurrections.
- Notice that the Saints, the blessed and holy, are the ones who take part in the first resurrection. The Saints are with Christ during the thousand years, so they will have to be resurrected at the beginning of the Millennium. Revelation 20:6
- The last part of verse 5 has to refer to verse 4 instead of the first part of verse 5, because as we have already seen, it is the saints that are in the first resurrection and they are alive during the Millennium.
- The first part of verse 5 then, is referring to those that are resurrected in the second resurrection when the thousand years were finished.
- Daniel 12:
- 2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and ever-lasting contempt.
- John 5:
- 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
- 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
- D. When Will The Righteous Dead Be Called From Their Sleep? (The First Resurrection)
- John 14:
- 1 LET not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
- 2 In my Fathers house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
- 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
- John 6:
- 40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
- 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
- 1 Corinthians 15:
- 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
- 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christs at his coming.
- 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

- 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

- Job 14:
- 12 So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
- 13 O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!
- 14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
- 15 Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.

- Colossians 3:
- 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
- NOTE:
- 1 John 5:13 says, we hath eternal life. It is clear from the two proceeding texts that this life, which is ours, is held in trust until the last day. (Also see 1 Corinthians 15:51-54)
- John 5:
- 25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
- 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
- 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

- E. Are The Righteous Changed Before The Resurrection Day?
- 1 Corinthians 15:
- 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
- 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
- 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
- 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
- Job 14:
- 14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

- Hebrews 11:

- 40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
