- VIII. When Will Sinners Receive Their
Punishment?
- Matthew 13:
- 40 As therefore the tares are gathered
and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this
world.
- 41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall
gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do
iniquity;
- 42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall
be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
- Revelation 20:
- 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old
serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand
years,
- 7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan
shall be loosed out of his prison,
- 9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the
camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down
from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
- 10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire
and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be
tormented day and night for ever and ever.
- John 5:
- 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is
coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his
voice,
- 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the
resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the
resurrection of damnation.
- NOTE:
- The righteous dead are resurrected at Christ’s
coming, at the beginning of the thousand years. (see 1 Thessalonians
4:16,17 and Revelation 20:4 below) The wicked who are living are
destroyed at Christ’s coming. (see 2 Thessalonians 2:8 and
Revelation 6:14-17 below) All the wicked are resurrected at the end of
the thousand years. (see Revelation 20:5 below) The wicked, the devil,
and his angels are punished with the “second death” at this
time. (see Revelation 20:6,10,14 and Revelation 21:8 below)
- 1 Thessalonians 4:
- 16 For the Lord himself shall
descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel,
and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise
first:
- 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up
together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and
so shall we ever be with the Lord.
- Revelation 20:
- 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon
them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that
were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and
which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had
received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they
lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
- 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand
years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
- 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection:
on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be
priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand
years.
- 10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the
lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet
are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
- 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is
the second death.
- 2 Thessalonians 2:
- 8 And then shall that Wicked be
revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and
shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
- Revelation 6:
- 14 And the heaven departed as a
scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island
were moved out of their places.
- 15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich
men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and
every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the
mountains;
- 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and
hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the
wrath of the Lamb:
- 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be
able to stand?
- Revelation 21:
- 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and
the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and
idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which
burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second
death.
