DIRTY FEET

In Roman days when two people had a argument over the ownership of a certain piece of land, the law required both parties to come. Court was set up right on the property itself! Both were to bring all of their gold, silver, cattle, and other chattel as evidence of their sincerity. Whoever lost the case lost everything he had.

Satan robbed the lordly dominion of the earth from Adam. And so the great controversy began between Christ and Satan. They both met on the disputed piece of property which was this entire world. Jesus staked His life on the out-come of the trial. The devil could do no less. Whoever won would be the owner of it all forever. Jesus won! The victory is sure. Jesus Christ is now the rightful owner of the world.

The Lord's Supper celebrates this victory. I Cor 11:26 "Whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes." This service today (Communion Serviece) symbolizes salvation purchased by the death of Jesus. The angels were witnesses to this battle and they attend each and every communion to this day. DA 656.

Where did the communion service come from? It is an innovation of Jesus. He gave it to each of us as a recurring reminder of His great sacrifice for us. "He took bread and gave thanks and brake it and gave it to them saying this is my body which is given for you".

We come with DIRTY FEET and sinful hearts to be cleansed. The act of washing each others feet (see John 13:1-17) is the gift of service. We need to pray: Lord, bathe our hearts with the soap of thy forgiveness. In fact service and spirituality cannot be separated. In this service today we give our best to Jesus.

LINDA BROWN-- What is this cloth made of? Why did we choose LINEN? Is it easier to work with?

Today we want to give our very best to Jesus. This is a service FOR us and a service BY us.

For a moment I want us to focus on the last supper. Not the first last supper but the last last supper, the final time this communion will be held. Jesus said in Matthew 26:29-- "I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom."

Early Writings, Page 19.... "Jesus' lovely voice said come, my people, come in to the supper... We shouted, Alleluia! Glory! and entered into the city. And I saw a table of pure silver; it was many miles in length, yet our eyes could extend over it."

This table will have bread and wine as the first course. Then we will be introduced to such a variety of mouth watering food as to be unbelievable. You might wonder Who will be honored to sit at the HEAD of such a magnificent table? I believe it will be ADAM. Adam is once again the leader of the world he once lost. His dominion has been restored.

So where will Christ be? Jesus will be there serving His children! LUKE 12:37-- "Blessed are those servants, whom the Lord when he comes shall find watching; I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them." KJV, NIV

What a concept of true greatness! Jesus is and always has been a servant. The greatest shall be the servant. There in that heavenly communion service Jesus will lead out. He will share rich meanings such as we have never thought. At that long silver table Jesus will pour out heavens wine into our golden goblets. Tears of gladness and appreciation will stain the glad faces of the saints as they behold His face.
