Some Beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

As listed in McDonald road Seventh-day Adventist Church Bulletin for January 31, 1997:

As the Son of God...in God the Father, and in the Holy Spirit.

As the Word of God...and the Bible as the inspired, authoritative rule of Christian faith and conduct.

As Man's Only Savior and Redeemer... from sin through faith in His atoning vicarious death upon the Cross.

As Lord...of the Christian's life and in His power to enable the Christian to live obediently to His holy unchangeable law of love, the Ten Commandments.

As Creator...of heaven and earth and of the holy Sabbath day commemorating His wondrous creative power to make a sinner into a saint.

As Man's Priest...In the courts of heaven, ministering the effects of His perfect atonement to all who believe and accept Him as their Savior.

As Coming King...who will physically return to the earth a second time accompanied by all the holy angels, to resurrect all who believe in Him.

We Believe:

Jesus Christ can be found throughout the entire Word Of God. (II Timothy 3:16,17)

Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Saviour from Sin. (John 1:1-3, Heb. 7:25)

Jesus Christ offers by reason of His death the free gift of His righteousness to all who accept Him by faith. (Romans 4:2-5)

Jesus Christ is coming back very soon. His coming will be visible and for the purpose of raising the dead, giving the righteous immortality and fulfilling His promise of an eternal home. (I Thess. 4:16,17, I Cor 15:52)

Jesus Christ is the source of a new birth experience through the power of the Holy Spirit. (John 3:3-5)

Jesus Christ is the creator of the world and established the Seventh-day Sabbath for His people to remember as a memorial of His creative power. (Heb. 1:1,2, Ex. 20:8-11)

Jesus Christ is our example that the 10 commandments law is a reflection of God's perfect character, and through living obedience can be our pattern for a successful, vibrant life. (John 15:10, James 2:8- 12)

Jesus Christ, in the Old and New Testament, outlined the free giving of tithes and offerings as a means of curing selfishness and supporting the work of the church. (Mal. 3:10, Matt. 23:23)

Jesus Christ, through His baptism, gave us an example of how His death and resurrection can apply to all mankind. (Mark 1:9,10, Rom. 6:3-5)

Jesus Christ, through His spirit, makes our body His temple and expects sound principles of healthful living to be followed. (I Cor. 3:16,17)

Jesus Christ will make certain that His church has the gifts of apostles, prophets, pastors and teachers and evangelists, for the unity of the faith and the perfection of the saints. (Ephesians 4:8-11)

Jesus Christ expects the principles of modesty and deportment to be recognized in His children. (I Tim. 2:9,10)

Jesus Christ is now active as our heavenly Priest and His last message for all mankind is that "the hour of God's judgment is come" (Rev. 14:7, Heb. 8:1-6)

Seventh-day Adventists believe...

salvation is a free gift of God's grace, made possible through the sinless life and the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and is accepted by faith on the part of the believer. We believe that we can have victory over sin by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, but that if we sin, forgiveness is available through Jesus Christ.

in one God, a unity of three co-eternal beings, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This loving God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, an He has revealed Himself to humanity in His inspired Word, the Bible. We believe that the Bible is the only rule of faith and practice for the Christian. We urge its daily study, aided by prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

the Ten commandments are a transcript of the character of God and a revelation of His will. We believe that we should keep His commandments (including the fourth, which enjoins the observance of the seventh day of the week as God's Sabbath), not as a means to salvation, but as a response of love for His loving salvation.

that Jesus is presently ministering in our behalf in the heavenly sanctuary, and in the soon return of Jesus to bring full redemption to His people. We believe that the faithful who die prior to the Second Coming will rest in the grave until the resurrection at the coming of Christ. We believe in the annihilation of the wicked by the fire that purges the earth during the executive phase of the judgment.

in spiritual gift, including the spirit of prophecy. We believe that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit, and proper care of our bodies is part of true spiritual living.

Just a word about the "Pathfinders". The Pathfinders are a club of young people from the ages of ten to about seventeen, sponsored by the Seventh- day Adventist Church. It is co-educational, recreational, and educational. In many respects it is similar to the well-known scouting programs. However, there is more to it than that. The boys and girls are involved in the spiritual aspect of life as well as the social. Often they may be found visiting retirement homes and hospitals to sing and give cheer to the patients. They are involved in distributing food and clothing to burn-outs and financially disabled people. They are actively developing strong character in their associations with their peers, their parents and the community.

And so we give them a chance to share with our church family today.
