Lessons from a Tree

By Jennifer Turk

At first glance….
The barren, crooked, and craggy branches look forlorn and so devoid of life.
Lost is the lush green fullness it wore so proudly a short time ago.
A symphony that sang with life and beauty.
Lost are the well hidden nests of creatures whose little homes now sit… denuded of life, song and busy feedings.
The tree stands empty and quiet…
At second glance…
Maybe, what seemed like emptiness and death is not the picture we see at all…
Maybe the tree, in the simplicity of its Creator, has shed itself, released of the yearly accumulations. In a glorious display, a final act, the last movement of a symphony only the Creator Himself could have composed-
It pours forth its plumage of crimson, rustic golds, and bright yellows, falling to the ground in a shower of color to brighten earth’s floor, as a final movement of harmonies, blending, and building to the resounding finish.
Once empty and silent, it rests…
Rejuvenates in the quiet, holding onto nothing from the past season, knowing it’s Creator will provide all it needs to begin again.
Peace in the Creators perfect orchestration.
Gone is any anxiety or fret over its lack and perceived barrenness…
It simply rests and trusts…
Waiting for the Creator’s symphony to rise again
For it is not its voice that calls forth the life but the melodious echoes of a loving Creator that awakens the song of life, every season, without fail, always perfect, Always…

Musings on a Sunday afternoon…
